The "alt-erhwürdigen" Althann Dragoons

The Dragoon regiment was founded by Joseph Count Kohary de Csabragh on 1733, took part in the siege of Prague in the War of Austrian Succession, went to Italy and saw some action. Later the regiment was stationed back in Austria/Slavonia and then later in Hungary.

In the Seven Years war it was firstly stationed as garrison, later as reserve, then saw some action at the Siege of Neisse, "maybe" participated at the Battle of Hochkirch, but definitively at the battle of Landshut, the siege of Glatz, the battle of Liegnitz, Hochgiersdorf and Reichenbach.

But as usual, I primarily chose these dragoons because of their unusual coat colour - white with red facings, as it fits superbly into the overall Austrian colour code AND if pressed, I could field them as cuirassiers, to an overaged, myoptic audience/opponent the missing breastplates would certainly go unnoticed!

This nearly finishes my 28mm Austrian army. I thought I had some space for another regiment of infantry, but I seem to have no space for the colours in the higher cavalry box ... maybe some guns and some Grenzer instead ... who knows ... decisions before x-mas ... difficult ... nearly impossible ... hmmm ...

  1. Unit looks amazing! I vote for guns, one always needs more guns.

    1. Yeeeeah, but they need Infantry, due to the larger regiments they are a bit wheezy on the regimental numbers ... :)
