1757 - The Saxons gets it! - Seven Years War

The First live Club night!!! Gloria, Victoria, widde widde wit hucheirassa!(don‘t ask!) - So we decided to go out with 28mm, Seven Years War, Seven Years rules, fictional battle, and my Prussians vs Barts super new Saxons (plus a little help from my Austrians, mainly guns and horses) - huzzah!!! My Prussisans were a bit less strategically inclined (1 staff officer less) and the guns had 1 ammo/shot less;

First we did both the same thing, moving towards each other... and shooting some guns - well less prudent, but more fun! Campbell came and joined for the Hohenzollern and I gave him the right flank a Cavalry and an infantry brigade. And he decided to attack!

Then both Horse flanks clashed on both sides -  and Bart started to roll low ... and continuously so ... ouch! Within 2 turns his flanks and his cavalry were gone (his cuirassiers were limping a bit longer, but same fate later really). Then we decided to close " the ring" as Bart formed some sort of a gigantic half square ... to no avail, we started to shoot off his front units with our last ammo and sending in our more numerous regiments.

Bart did the only honourable thing and surrendered/ withdrew - victory was ours!!! There was no way in hell that anybody could have turned this around. I had more infantry, he had better guns and more ammo, that was going low now and he lost all his horses.

Well, it was the first battle for most of the Saxons, as pretty they were. (Crann Tara miniatures) - so the curse works in my favour... hehe! Nevermind, Bart ,next battle with the pretty Saxons will come!

The Prussians

The Saxons

The initial set up - traditional really ...

First turn - everybody moves.

The Prussian right wing under Campbell charges!

The Austrian cavalry moves in!

The first clash leaves the Austrians a bit "ruffled"

The Saxon centre fires away ... in the hope to soften us up.

... but a low roll on staff officers left the Austrian cavalry in misery ...

The Death hussars and some dragoons (Russian actually psst!) attack ...

... and charge their Austrian counterparts!

But Barts luck ran out ... and so they ran ...

1 shaky cuirassier unit vs 4 fit Prussian horse units ...

The centre fired away but didn‘t do much damage ...

but still intact ...

then we replied in kind ...

The fire exchange would be limited eventually.

Then we decided to attack!

The Prussian line moved forward.

Still the Saxons fired back!

... sending some Regiments running ...

But then we concentrated the fire and Saxons started to die.

And all the Prussian infantry advanced.

The unexpectedly successful Seydlitz Hussars!

Thats when the Saxons called it a day.

    1. Haha!True! Thats why I designed the rules differently. Even cavalry engagements went on for longer ... only on rare circumstances like this one ... :)
